“…the first time all five neighbors visited the State Capitol…”

Staff accompanied five Neighborhood Village neighbors to Sacramento for Equity on the Mall—marking the first time all five neighbors visited the State Capitol. For individuals who were recently unhoused, simply leaving Tulare County and stepping into a space of influence and advocacy was deeply meaningful. It was more than a trip; it was a declaration that they belong in the rooms where decisions are made.

Throughout the day, they met with partners, listened to powerful speakers on housing, land use, and the environment, and learned how government works—and how to make it work for the people. But what stood out most was their shared commitment to those still surviving on the streets. Each neighbor carried with them the stories and struggles of friends and family still facing homelessness, determined to raise their voices and push for change for our local community. They returned not only inspired but engaged—ready to lead, advocate, and make a difference for their community.
