Operations Supervisor
Carmen Ibarra
As Operations Supervisor at Salt + Light, Carmen Ibarra oversees the daily functions of Unity Hall, ensuring that operations run smoothly, efficiently, and with care. Her role spans many areas — from developing procedures and protocols to managing administrative functions, overseeing the janitorial team, and supporting the front desk workforce. Carmen brings an approachable and steady presence to her work, balancing warmth with clear boundaries so that systems remain organized and welcoming for staff, residents, and visitors alike.
In her role, Carmen has a unique vantage point — witnessing both the challenges and the growth of residents and neighbors as they navigate their journeys. Seeing progress unfold, even through setbacks, continually reinforces why this work matters and how meaningful consistent, thoughtful operations can be in supporting healing and stability. Her strong communication and organizational skills allow her to manage complex responsibilities while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
Before joining Salt + Light, Carmen spent over seven years in the nonprofit sector as an Outreach Coordinator, where she represented her organization at community events, collaborative meetings, and county-wide initiatives. Her work focused on raising awareness around sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking, while also connecting individuals to resources that support safety, healing, and recovery. This background deeply informs her advocacy-centered and trauma-informed approach to operations and community engagement.
Outside of work, Carmen is passionate about travel and exploring new places — viewing the world through what she calls a “National Geographic lens.” She loves discovering diverse cuisines, coffee experiences, and breathtaking views, and has traveled to over 19 countries, 20 U.S. states, and 10 states across Mexico, with many more adventures ahead. Carmen embraces the unpredictability of nonprofit work, describing each day as a “mystery box,” and finds meaning in showing up with consistency and kindness — especially for the children who look up to her. For Carmen, the true reward of this work is knowing that even small, steady actions can plant seeds of hope, confidence, and inspiration in the lives of others.
